Craven College Construction tutors have come together with a charity group known as Band of Builders to help renovate the home of Luke Mortimer in Embsay, who tragically lost both arms and legs after contracting Meningococcal Meningitis.

Tutors Ian Maltby and Steve Syers along with the construction trades charity Band of Builders have been transforming Luke’s dad’s residence to modify it for Luke’s needs.

Band of Builders is a UK charity organisation that works to help members of the construction industry and their families across the country in their hour of need.

The team got stuck in during a week-long transformation which saw the installation of new insulation, lowering of ceilings, replastering, new flooring with underfloor heating and a new shower room installed. A new kitchen and flooring are still to be installed which will take place shortly.

Craven College tutor Ian Maltby has been involved in a number of fundraising activities for Luke since Feb 2020, which have included charity rugby matches, cycling the Leeds Liverpool canal non-stop and a virtual Everest climb around Malham, ascending and descending 11,500ft in under 24 hours non-stop.
The next charity event for Ian is Tough Mudder 15K at Broughton Hall on the 29 July, alongside 9 members of Skipton RFC, Luke’s local rugby team. The aim of the funding raising is to put towards the purchasing of prosthetic legs and arms for Luke. Good luck!
