Painter & Decorator Apprenticeship

Throughout the programme, learners develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to prepare surfaces, apply decorative finishes and install wallcoverings to a high professional standard. They learn to work on both internal and external projects using a variety of materials, tools and techniques in domestic and commercial environments.

Painter and Decorators work independently and as part of wider construction teams, collaborating with clients, site managers and other trades to complete projects safely, efficiently and to specification. They are responsible for achieving high-quality finishes while complying with health and safety requirements, industry standards and environmental best practices.

The role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and effective communication. Learners will also develop an understanding of sustainable working practices, including waste reduction, recycling and the responsible use of materials.

On completion, learners will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to work confidently within the painting and decorating industry, with opportunities to progress into specialist areas such as heritage restoration, commercial decorating or self-employment.

As part of the Apprenticeship, you will have monthly workplace visits from a Learning Development Advisor, with 6 hours per week off the job training which will be tracked. You will build a portfolio showing your work-based evidence.
