This new development funded by T Level capital funding from the Department of Education was completed in time for the first cohort of students to use the facilities this academic year and has been enjoyed by students from further education, T Levels and apprenticeships.

This development is not only a strategic investment in skills, productivity and local and regional growth, but a proactive response to workforce demand supporting the long-term economic ambitions of our region.

The event started with welcome addresses from Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College and Martin Lofthouse, Head of Construction before an audience of invited guests from within the construction industry with whom the College enjoys vital and supportive relationships.

Special guest the Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE commented “It was fantastic to visit Craven College and see first‑hand the impressive new construction facilities at the Auction Mart Campus. These excellent facilities will make a big difference for local young people, helping them build the practical skills and confidence they need for careers in construction and the skilled trades. Speaking with students, it was clear they have real enthusiasm for their learning and take great pride in the high‑quality work they are producing.

Craven College plays a vital role in supporting local skills, jobs and opportunities, and I would like to thank Anita Lall, her leadership team, and all the staff for their dedication to students and to the wider community.”

Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College added, “This facility is an investment in skills, creating and developing skills for today, and building resilience for the future. It is an investment to support our employers and their continued success; it is an investment to support economic growth across our wider region.

But above all, this investment is for our learners – those studying with us today and those who will come through our doors in the years ahead. It is an investment opportunity that is unlocking potential and changing lives”.

Martin Lofthouse, Head of Construction at Craven College said, “In 5 years our provision for 16–18-year-olds has grown by over 3 times to nearly 500 students and it is great to have these facilities to continue to teach as many students as we can.

“I’d like to thank all our sponsors and supports – those who are here, and those who couldn’t join us – who add so much to what we are able to offer.”

A big thank you to all our guests who joined us on such a special day!
