Installation & Maintenance Electrician
Installation and Maintenance Electricians install, maintain, test and repair electrical systems in a wide range of environments, including residential, commercial, industrial and engineering settings.
Throughout the programme, learners develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and effectively with electrical equipment, systems and technologies. This includes installing wiring systems, lighting, power distribution, control equipment, safety systems and emerging low-carbon technologies such as renewable energy systems.
Electricians work from technical drawings and specifications to install, test, commission and maintain electrical installations. They are responsible for ensuring all work meets current industry regulations, safety standards and legal requirements, delivering safe and reliable electrical systems for customers and businesses.
Working independently or as part of a team, electricians liaise with customers, colleagues, contractors and other trades on construction and engineering projects. They develop strong technical, problem-solving and diagnostic skills to identify faults, carry out repairs and maintain system performance.
The role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail and commitment to health and safety. Electricians may work on new-build projects, refurbishment work, maintenance contracts or specialist installations, with opportunities to progress into supervisory roles or self-employment.
On completion, learners will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to work confidently as a qualified electrician across a variety of sectors, supporting modern electrical infrastructure and emerging low-carbon technologies.
