College Lecturers Taste the Bright Lights of Television!

Two tutors from our Construction department swapped the workshop for the television studio as they took part in filming a game show for Buzzfeed, the digital media giant.

Peter Face, Lecturer in Painting and Decorating and Steve Syers, Lecturer in Plastering took part in the Share your Skills quiz show, hosted by Jeff Thurm, pitting their knowledge against other FE teachers from a range of subjects including Computing & IT and Health and Social Care.

Share your Skills is a Department for Education initiative aiming to encourage professionals out of the world of industry and into the world of further education, sharing their real-world experience and skills.

The day of filming dawned bright and early for Peter and Steve as they set off from Skipton at 6.00am to travel down to Elstree Studios. On arrival they were whisked into makeup before embarking on three hours of filming. The quiz show consisted of four rounds comprising a variety of tasks and questions all aimed at dispelling misconceptions around getting into teaching.

And of course, at the end of the gruelling show, Peter and Steve emerged as winners – we expected nothing else! A huge congratulations to them both!

Peter and Steve said, “It was an enjoyable experience, although a long day. It was really interesting to see how a game show is put together and the amount of people there are behind the cameras. We are delighted with the finished show and of course the result!”
