Construction
Are you ready to get hands-on and start building a career in the construction industry? At Craven College, our Construction courses offer the perfect mix of practical training, industry insight, and career progression. Whether you’re interested in Painting and Decorating, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Plastering, Bricklaying, or Joinery, we’ve got the facilities and expertise to help you succeed.
Training takes place in our brand new purpose-built, industry-standard workshops at the Auction Mart Campus and Ribblehead Building. Our Painting and Decorating, Electrical, Plumbing, and Plastering students learn in dedicated spaces designed to reflect real working environments. Meanwhile, our expanded Joinery workshops now cover the entire ground floor of the Ribblehead Building, giving students access to professional tools, project areas, and a fully equipped machine shop.
You can choose to study full-time or start an Apprenticeship, gaining valuable experience while working in the industry. Many students begin with our Multi-Skills course, which introduces all key construction trades before specialising in their second year. This is a great way to explore your options and find the path that suits you best.
Our Bricklaying students train in a brand-new, state-of-the-art workshop featuring industry-standard equipment such as a large roller pan mixer, forklift truck, and pallet truck. Joinery students can specialise in either Bench Joinery or Site Joinery, working in a well-equipped space with storage, extraction systems, and designated project areas. Painting and Decorating students benefit from purpose-built booths for training and assessment, while Plastering students have access to bespoke bays for solid plastering and plaster boarding, a serpentine wall for advanced Level 3 work, and a fibrous workshop for architectural plasterwork.
All our tutors are experienced tradespeople with years of expertise in both large-scale construction and specialist areas like Heritage and Conservation work. You’ll also have the chance to take part in the prestigious CITB SkillBuild competition, showcasing your skills and gaining recognition in the industry. All tools, equipment, and materials are provided, so you can focus on learning and developing your craft.
