Published 27 March

Six of our Level 1 Culinary Skills students recently took part in an Army Challenge Day at Fulwood Barracks in Preston.

Students got to experience what it is like to use army field kitchens and were split into two teams for a range of tasks.

The first three students were tasked with creating three dishes using 10-person operational army packs. These include a range of tinned and dried foods that are used to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 10 people.

The second three students had to create three dishes using fresh ingredients including leg of lamb, topside of beef, and chicken legs as well as a selection of fresh vegetables.

After the challenge, students were given a really interesting and insightful careers talk and had a lot of fun on the airsoft shooting range.

Such a great opportunity for our students to take their culinary skills on the road and create some tasty meals in unusual surroundings!
