Health & Social Care Students Experience Immersive Room
Level 3 Year 1 Health & Social Care students recently completed their latest assessments in our brand-new immersive room.
The Immersive Room at Craven College, entitled “Space” is a state-of-the-art suite created with a Local Skills Improvement Fund award which gives learners the opportunity to be fully immersed in their surroundings, bringing classroom learning alive and into the real world; an incredibly useful facility for students to get a taste of the hands-on experience of work.

Moving away from the traditional written assignment, students were tasked with delivering a recorded presentation designed to capture their holistic understanding of the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals as part of their Meeting Individual Support Needs assignment. This format allowed students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours in a dynamic, high-tech environment.
Every student pushed themselves well out of their comfort zones and displayed incredible resilience and professionalism.
Chelsea Wallace, Lecturer in Health & Social Care said, “The resulting presentations were truly amazing, showcasing not only their academic understanding of the curriculum but also their growing confidence as future healthcare practitioners.
“A special thank you to Rebecca Holt for her help with the creative side! We essentially threw our ideas at her, and she worked her magic to turn them into a brilliant, immersive rolling video. Her efforts made the technical side effortless for us—we just had to hit ‘play’—and we couldn’t have done it without her!”
Lucy Woodhead, Lecturer in Health & Social Care added, “This experience not only strengthened subject knowledge, but also built confidence, resilience, and vital communication skills needed when working with multi-disciplinary teams. Doing things that feel challenging is a powerful way to grow and our students rose to the challenge brilliantly – preparing confident, workplace-ready professionals starts early!”
