Vital Experiences Help Shape Learning
Aviation students visited Humberside Offshore Training Association to undertake vital water drills training. Established in 1987 and based in Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, HOTA provides internationally approved and certified training.

They completed a short course in water survival mimicking the training given to cabin crew and pilots preparing then for an aircraft ditching in water.
Nikki Chestnutt, Head of Department, Professional and Leisure Industries said, “Water drills is not only fun but develops essential water lifesaving skills that are used in aviation training.”
Meanwhile, our Level 5 Aviation and Operations Management students are studying a Project Management module.
Students pitched their projects to the Project Management Team at Leeds Bradford Airport. Senior Project Manager Officer Luise Toouli and Project Support Officer Jenna Roberts listened to their projects before giving students a presentation about their current project and which tools they use.
Project ideas included a children’s soft play area, a way finding app at Leeds Bradford Airport, a roof top viewing area at London Heathrow, an Electric vehicle replacement plan for airside vehicles at Accra International Airport in Ghana and a sustainable refurbishment for Melbourne Airport including solar panels, greenery planting, and locally grown hardwood benches.
Victoria Carolan, Lecturer in Aviation and Travel said, “The students were very nervous but both Luise and Jenna were impressed with their project ideas and knowledge of project management theories and tools.”
