The week got off to a flying start with guest speakers from Border Force, Air Traffic Control, Dispatch and a session about a realistic journey to becoming a commercial pilot. All sessions were incredibly informative and interactive, giving students a taste of the variety of careers within the aviation industry.

Day two brought Jet2.com and Jet2 Holidays to The Aviation Academy along with Elevate(her) organisation, an organisation dedicated to elevating the percentage of women in all aviation careers globally. We are so fortunate to have ex-students come back to visit us from their respective departments at Jet2 to give our current cohort ideas for career paths.

The morning of day 3 was all about our former students! Abbie and Lucy who had studied with us 10 and 7 years ago visited to share their experience – and our students were excited to recognise them as cabin crew on our recent trip to Rome! Then we welcomed back Holly who studied with us 12 years ago, and who vividly brought her career journey to life.

In the afternoon Captain Mavor from British Airways spoke about his varied experiences and the students enjoyed a fun session about choosing their attitudes!

Day 4 saw something more physical with Joanne Purvis from SecuriCare leading a session on restraint training whilst OddArts shared their Radicalisation Awareness. The day ended with a session from World Duty Free including restrictions and buy backs when passengers don’t fly – a wonderful day full of great practical knowledge for future careers. Meanwhile, over at our Aireville Campus Travel & Tourism and Public Service students had a brilliant morning with Mohammed learning about counter-terrorism training.

Day 5 saw the completion of World of Work week with a second session of restraint training. The entire week was a superb mix of interactive learning and chances to experience real life scenarios and hear inspirational and motivational speakers.

Andrew Scott, Deputy Head of Department – Aviation and Travel & Tourism said, “We recently wrapped up an incredible ‘World of Work’ week, bridging the gap between education and aviation. We were honoured to host British Airways, Jet2, Border Force, Heathrow, East Midlands Airport, and SecuriCare.

“The highlight? Many of our guest speakers were former students, now returning to share expert insights and career pathways with the next generation. A huge thank you to our employer partners for investing their time in the future of aviation!
