The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) exists to support and improve the mental health, fitness, and wellbeing, of young adults, students, and staff, throughout the UK. The annual BRIT Challenge is an inclusive feel-good fundraiser to improve mental health and fitness, all whilst raising vital funds for local, regional, and national charities, alongside BRIT.

Every UK university, college, specialist college and Students’ Union are invited to register to take part, enter teams, and support student and staff participation, both on campus and at home.

A group of 41 students together with 6 staff members and a university student who is currently with us on work placement and is a former Craven College student, set off from our Aireville Campus at 9am on Tuesday 12 May, ready for a 26kms walk. The walk route designed by Sport Lecturers Heather Marsden and Adam Platt was designed to cover a number of different terrains and gradients.

Heading from College out to Thorlby and Stirton before the largest chunk of the walk to Embsay, students enjoyed a picnic lunch break at the bottom of Embsay Crag, and then a well-earned refreshment pit stop at Billy Bobs for a motivating ice cream! The Student Services team provided water and protein bars for all participants and the all-important first aid kit.

The team then headed back to College to be welcomed back onto campus in recognition of their amazing achievement.

Heather Marsden, Lecturer in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training said, “The 26km challenge was a fantastic achievement by both students and staff. It was a demanding walk, but everyone showed great determination and resilience throughout the day.

Several participants pushed themselves well beyond their comfort zones to complete the challenge, and everyone involved should be extremely proud of what they accomplished.

It was great to see students from across the department working together, supporting one another, and building positive relationships throughout the day!”
