In this workshop, students learnt essential first aid skills helping them build their confidence and giving them the tools to help someone in an emergency situation using everyday objects.

Students were also given vital information on how to find support for their own injuries or illnesses, boosting calmness and improving their ability to help themselves and others.

Marie Isherwood, Student Development Officer said, “This session was vital in bringing life skills into student’s hands; learning how to potentially react in an emergency situation.

Meanwhile, Health & Social Care students participated in a first aid scenario in Space, the Immersive Room at the Auction Mart campus. An emergency situation played out using the room’s immersive technology, fully submerging the students into the scenario.

Media Make-up students were on hand to use their skills to create a range of burns, scars, bruises, and cuts on the casualties (played by students), whilst first aiders dressed in hospital blue tunics attended to the wounded.

David Edwards, Lecturer in Health and Social Care said, “The students have been working hard over the last couple of weeks to develop their first aid skills and knowledge. The Immersive Room experience gave us a chance to stretch and challenge the students by putting them in a high stress situation where they had to apply teamwork, problem solving as well as fist aid skills. The most important aspect of the session was the comradeship and togetherness, to support each other, shown by each of them.
