Want to develop your communication skills and support others effectively? Take your first step into counselling with this Level 2 qualification.

This course is designed for those who wish to develop their communication and counselling skills in a supportive learning environment. It is particularly suitable if you are returning to education or looking to build confidence in your written and spoken English.

Throughout the course, you will explore key counselling concepts, including personal development, the use of counselling skills and the theories that underpin professional practice. You will develop an understanding of how to communicate effectively and support others in a structured and ethical way.

During the programme, you will achieve two qualifications:

  • Level 1 Award in Interpersonal Skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

By the end of the course, you will have built a strong foundation for further study and personal development, as well as improved confidence in your communication skills. Please note: this course does not qualify you to practise as a counsellor; further study would be needed.

What you’ll cover:

  • Developing effective communication and listening skills
  • Introduction to counselling skills and their use
  • Exploring key counselling theories
  • Personal development and self-awareness
  • Ethical use of counselling skills
  • Understanding boundaries within counselling practice

Full commitment to the duration of the course is required, and you will be expected to complete work outside of class.

This is not a therapy course. You should be prepared to take part in activities and share appropriately within a learning environment.

Entry Requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements other than a Level 1 standard of English.
  • You will complete an initial assessment to ensure the course is appropriate for you.
