Learn how to design and make architectural stained-glass windows using the traditional lead came method.

This course will enable you to cut and shape glass. Create a design and learn to cut glass to a pattern. You will develop skills in leading and soldering. As you progress on the course you will be able to design a stained-glass window for your home or other architectural building.

The course will look at both historical and modern stained windows, developing an understanding of context and place in the making of stained-glass design. You will learn about different styles and methods of making glass that can inform design compositions.

Learn how to colour mix glass sheets and how to paint on glass using modern glass paints.

You will complete the following units to achieve this award:

  • Explore craft resources – you will develop your knowledge of glass and lead and develop the techniques required to manipulate them. You will also cover health and safety procedures relevant to the chosen tools and materials
  • Explore craft ideas – you will explore the work of others to inspire and develop your own craft ideas. You will record your ideas and discuss them with others
  • Create, present, and review final craft item – This unit allows you to plan, produce and reflect upon your own craft work. You will produce a stained-glass window whilst maintaining a safe working environment
