Students Join in Self-Care Week!
The upstairs classroom at Skipton Library was turned into a mini salon last week, as Level 2 Beauty Therapy and Level 2 Nail Services students brought their talents to the library’s Self-Care Week, which ran from 17 to 23 November.

Helenne Whitaker, Community Development Librarian – Craven said, “Self-Care Week is an annual national awareness week that focuses on embedding support for self-care across communities, families and generations.”
Skipton Library ran sessions such as wet felting, stopping smoking, a coffee morning talk, talking therapies drop in, fire service drop in, carer’s resource drop in, Tai Chi taster session, a mindfulness walk, and of course free manicures from our very own students.
The manicure sessions proved extremely popular, with each session fully booked! Students, working in a relaxing atmosphere of festive music, treated each of their clients to an hour-long session including a pre-manicure massage, full manicure, colour, and then a discussion on after-care focusing on nail health and care in cold weather.

Feedback from the clients was positive across the board, with the sessions being described as “delightful,” “amazing,” “very relaxing” and one client promising to book for a facial at The Style Academy!
Charlotte Bailey, Lecturer in Hair & Beauty said, “Taking part in the Self-Care week gave the students chance to practice their manicure skills with real clients. Working in the library helped them gain confidence interacting with the public, while creating a calm and relaxing environment for them. It was a great experience to support others’ wellbeing while developing our own professional skills.”
