Sports Student’s Success Away from the Classroom
Level 3 Year 1 Sports student Yvie Ling-Hegarty is displaying her prowess away from the classroom as she continues her journey excelling in Taekwondo.

Yvie got into Taekwondo through a friend around seven years ago, and although the friend stopped going, she had fallen in love with the sport! Loving the atmosphere of the club, the family-feeling has kept Yvie enthralled ever since.
Although she says it can be difficult competing against your friends and clubmates at times, the sportsmanship of the discipline means that whilst you are enemies for the duration of your bout, you are back to being friends with no arguments straight afterwards!
Yvie has recently come back from Italy, where she competed with her club Beanland Taekwondo – Keighley in the European Championships. Returning with an astonishing four medals – Gold in Individual Sparring, Gold in Team Sparring, Silver in Individual Patterns, and Silver in Team Patters, this was a truly outstanding display in Evie’s final major competition at Junior Level.
Adam Platt, Lecturer in Sport said, ““We are incredibly proud of Yvie on becoming a Taekwondo Champion in her age group. This outstanding achievement reflects her dedication, discipline, and determination.
“Although she joined Craven College only in September, Yvie has already made a strong impression. She is a motivated, disciplined student with a fantastic character, and we enjoy hearing her share her elite sporting experiences with peers. Her commitment to both Taekwondo and her education is truly exceptional.
“At Craven College, we are committed to supporting students in achieving their goals and succeeding in their chosen pathways. We look forward to helping Yvie balance her sporting career with her studies and achieve the best possible outcomes in both.”

Yvie’s next major competition is the World Championships in Lanzarote in April. Yvie said, “This will be my first major competition at Senior Level, so it will be a big jump in ability and standard, but I’m really excited to see how I get on. I’m participating in Sparring and Patterns again and having just done so well at the Europeans at Junior Level I think I’ve got a good chance of doing really well.”
Yvie’s long-term plans in her sport include turning professional to participate in Total Combat.
We wish you every success Yvie for the World Championships and can’t wait to hear how you get on!
