Pupils from Christ Church CE (VC) Primary School in Skipton enjoyed a treat in the last week of term when they were invited to participate in a school trip to Craven College, for an animation workshop hosted by the College’s Media Department.
The visit was a unique opportunity for the College to reach out into the local community, whilst showcasing the equipment and expertise the Craven College has to offer.
During the workshop, hosted by Lecturer in Creative Media Dr Terry Hall and Technician Ben Pearson, students had the opportunity to create their own Zoetrope. They then moved onto design and created their own characters and movies using the College’s camera equipment.
The students displayed their creative flair with a wide variety of stories ranging from a puppeteer winning Britain’s Got Talent, to a worm trying to wriggle through a garden.
Dr Terry Hall hailed this visit a success and commented, “The children have really enjoyed their day at Craven College. With the cost-of-living crisis, schools have been priced out of coach hire, meaning it isn’t feasible to go on school trips as we once did. The College is a keystone of the community, by supporting schools and charities in this way, and hopefully creating some long-lasting memories along the way.”
