Higher Education Student’s Journey to Success

Chloe Burks has come a long way since graduating from Craven College in 2015. Chloe studied for a Foundation Degree in Animal Sciences before moving to Bedfordshire to continue her education.

Chloe achieved a Bachelor of Science (Honours Degree) in Animal Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire, with her specialist ecology-based dissertation entitled “The effects of propagule pressure and temperature on bacterial ciliated species”.

Her educational journey didn’t stop there, with Chloe going on to achieve a Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Welfare from the University of Northampton. Alongside her studies, Chloe gained valuable work experience in the animal management industry, working for the RSPCA and dog walking for a local company.

Chloe says “In 2017 I purchased a small dog walking and pet care company. Due to its success, I expanded the business and employed three members of staff. In October 2019 I was asked to return to be a guest speaker at the University of Northampton to talk about my success in my pet care business.”

Danielle Fox, Head of Land-based Provision added, “Chloe was a dedicated and hardworking student and I’m extremely proud of what she has achieved in terms of setting up a very successful business and gaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Welfare. Hearing how our students progress and succeed gives us a huge amount of job satisfaction as lecturers.
