WORK EXPERIENCE

Level 3 – Complete 750 hours of work placement over the 2 years, is a mandatory part of your course and this links with one of your units. Unit 8 (in the first year) and Unit 15 (in the second year) are made up of your work placement and activity plans, observations and reflections which go alongside this, and you receive a grade for this which contributes to your overall grade.

Level 2 – Complete 120 hours of work placement over the year and your learning prepares you for going out into the workplace, you will attend both a primary school setting and an early years setting.

DBS Check

Student Services will send further details. For both levels, you must have a Disclosure and Baring Service certificate (DBS) and you will complete this with the College and the College will send this off on your behalf. You will be given a list of identification documents you will need to bring to complete this form. Student Services will send further details.

TRIPS

Over the year there will be visits from professionals working in the sector who will come and deliver a session to inform you of their role. Some examples are phonics and how to deliver phonics, Makaton & Special educational needs tutor along with first aid paediatric level 3 course over two days.

There will also be the opportunity to visit some university open days to help you consider your next steps after college, universities will also visit college as part of your transition experience and you will be able to have a mini taster lesson from various universities.

The department will also be running a trip to the Eureka to understand more about how children learn and develop, and we have had end-of-year trips to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Lightwater Valley.

Paying for food and drinks on campus – Upay – our new payment system

From September 2024, you will be able to pay for your school meals with your College ID badge, simply swipe your badge at the tills!

Students with free school meal eligibility will automatically have their ‘free school meal’ balance topped up to their College ID badge, making it easier and quicker to pay for your meals on campus.

Students who do not qualify for free school meals will also be able to pay for meals this way, simply download the Upay app and add credit to your account. Further details will be given when you enrol.

Cash and bank card are still accepted for any food/drink purchase.
