Develop your understanding of autism and learn how to support individuals effectively in care, education and community settings.

This qualification is designed to help you develop a clear understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism. It is suitable if you provide direct support or work in sectors such as healthcare, social care, education, leisure or community services.

You will explore how autism affects individuals in different ways and learn how person-centred approaches can support positive outcomes. Studying online gives you the flexibility to learn at a time and pace that suits your work or home commitments, while still receiving structured tutor support.

What you’ll cover:

  • Introduction to autism
  • Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism
  • Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism
  • Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism
  • Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism
  • Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives

For each unit, you will complete a set of knowledge-based questions as part of the formal assessment. Your tutor will provide feedback after each unit. All assessments must be completed and passed to achieve the qualification successfully.

Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 1 or equivalent English language qualification to enrol on this course. You may also find it helpful if you have already achieved a Level 1 qualification.
