Discover how to design and create your own printed fabrics using creative surface printing techniques.

This course provides a creative introduction to surface printing for fashion and textiles, with a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some creative experience, the course encourages experimentation and personal design development.

You will explore a range of traditional and contemporary printing techniques while creating your own unique designs on fabric and paper. A key focus will be developing repeat patterns suitable for applications in fashion, interiors or textile products.

With guidance from an experienced tutor, you will build confidence in colour mixing, layering and fabric handling, producing a collection of original printed outcomes by the end of the course.

What you’ll cover:

  • Working with stencils on a screen
  • Learning how imagery can be transferred through layered colour and texture
  • Designing your own images
  • Learn how to expose hand‑drawn or designed artwork onto screens
  • Experiment with water‑based colour mixed with binder
  • Applying paint directly onto screens to create both spontaneous and controlled printed results.
