This qualification provides an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It is suitable for those looking to begin a career in education, volunteers, or individuals already working with children and young people who wish to gain a recognised qualification.
You will develop an understanding of how educational settings operate and the importance of supporting children and young people in a safe, inclusive and effective learning environment. The course will help you build confidence and practical knowledge to support a variety of roles within schools and colleges.
This course aims to develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to work in a supervised role that supports pupils’ learning in a school environment. It also acts as a foundation qualification, allowing progression to further study.
You will study a range of topics while developing transferable skills such as teamwork, communication and self-assessment, all of which will support your future career.

Entry Requirements
- It is recommended that you have some experience working with children or have completed a Level 1 qualification, but this is not essential
- You will complete an initial assessment to ensure the course is suitable for you
- You should ideally have a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English or be working towards this
Information
Commitment to attending all sessions is essential, and you will be expected to complete some work outside of class time.
For progression onto the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, you will need a placement within a school environment for at least one day per week, where you will be observed as part of your assessment. The College works with local placement providers and can support you in securing this.
This qualification shares mandatory units with the Level 2 Certificate, providing a clear progression route.
