Transform metal into a textured landscape inspired by your surroundings in this creative hands-on course.
This practical and creative course introduces you to metalworking through the design and creation of a textured landscape sculpture. Inspired by the local environment, you will develop your own unique design and bring it to life using a range of metalworking techniques.
Suitable for beginners, the course is designed to build your confidence and skills over five weeks in a supportive workshop setting. You will explore how to shape, texture and finish sheet metal, combining creative design with technical processes.
By the end of the course, you will have produced a distinctive sculptural piece and gained a solid foundation in metalwork that you can continue to develop independently.
You will cover:
- Introduction to workshop tools and safe working practices
- Designing a metal landscape inspired by local surroundings
- Working with a range of sheet metals
- Sawing and cutting techniques
- Filing and refining edges
- Texturing methods to create surface detail
- Annealing and shaping metal
- Introduction to enamelling
- Assembling and finishing your final piece
Entry Requirements
No prior experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn a new skill.
Information
All materials required to make your piece are included in the course fee.
For your safety and comfort, please bring:
- Closed-toe footwear
- Long hair tied back
- No valuable jewellery
- Optional: your own apron (aprons are also available to borrow)
- A drink and snack (there will be a short break)
