This course is your first step towards working within a school setting.

This course is designed for you if you are considering a career in a school environment and want to understand what working in education involves. You will gain an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of people working in schools, along with essential knowledge around safeguarding, child protection and inclusive practice.

You will develop an understanding of how schools operate and learn how to communicate effectively with children, young people and adults. The course provides a supportive starting point to help you decide whether working in education is right for you, while building confidence and employability skills.

On successful completion of the programme, you will achieve two recognised qualifications.

  • Children and young people’s health and safety
  • Safeguarding children and young people
  • Communicating effectively with children, young people and adults
  • Children and young people’s development
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion when working with children and young people

Qualifications you will achieve:

  • Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools
  • Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges

This course requires commitment for the full duration of the programme. You will be expected to complete homework and independent study tasks outside of classroom sessions to support your learning and progression.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You will complete an initial assessment to ensure the course is appropriate for your current skills, experience and career goals.

Further Study

On completion of this course, you may progress to:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Voluntary work in a school setting

This course provides a strong foundation for further study or progression into employment within education settings.
