Thinking about working in a school but not sure where to start? This introductory course helps you take your first step into education.
This Level 1 course is designed for learners who are considering a career in a school environment and want to understand what working in education involves. It provides a supportive introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work safely and effectively with children and young people.
You will explore how schools operate, learn how to support the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people, and develop appropriate communication skills for working with pupils and adults. The course helps you build confidence, improve employability skills and decide whether a career in education is right for you.
What you’ll cover:
- Understanding schools as organisations
- Keeping children and young people healthy, safe and well
- Communicating effectively with children, young people and adults
- Introduction to professional behaviour in education settings
- Building confidence and employability skills
This course requires commitment for the full duration of the programme.
You will be expected to complete homework and independent study tasks outside of classroom sessions to support learning and progression.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. All learners will complete an initial assessment to ensure the course is appropriate for their skills, experience and career aims.

- Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools
- Voluntary work or work experience in a school setting
