Good maths skills are essential for work and further study. Build confidence, improve problem-solving skills and work towards achieving a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths.
This GCSE Maths course is designed to help you develop the mathematical skills needed for employment, further education or higher education. The course runs from September to June, with classes taking place for two and a half hours each week.
Throughout the course, you will build confidence and develop problem-solving skills across a wide range of mathematical topics. These include number, algebra, geometry, probability, ratio and statistics. You will be supported to apply maths to real-life situations and develop strategies to approach unfamiliar problems.
You will practise exam techniques regularly, both informally in class through mock assessments that will take place throughout the year to support exam preparation and for the final exams, which take place in late May and early June.

- Number skills and calculations
- Algebra and equations
- Ratio, proportion and percentages
- Geometry and measures
- Probability and statistics
- Mathematical problem solving
- Exam preparation and assessment practice
You will be expected to:
- Attend all sessions and aim for 100% attendance
- Commit to at least one hour of independent study outside of class each week
- Be punctual and prepared for learning
Entry Requirements
You will need to demonstrate that you are working at a Grade 3 (previously Grade D) standard at the start of the year. This will be assessed at the beginning of the course.
Information
You are advised to bring:
- A notebook and pen
- A calculator and basic maths equipment (your tutor will provide further guidance)
Further Study
Achieving a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths is a requirement for many jobs and further or higher education courses.
This qualification supports progression into employment, apprenticeships, college courses or university study.
