ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages
Learning English as an additional language? Build confidence, improve communication skills and take the next step towards work, study and everyday life in the UK.
The ESOL qualification is designed for learners whose first language is not English. This course supports you in developing the language and communication skills needed for everyday situations, the workplace and further education.
You will improve your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills through practical activities and real-life topics. Learning is delivered in a supportive environment that encourages participation and confidence-building.
Our classes and small and friendly with plenty of support from our tutors, and you can meet new people and make new friends whilst you study.
To achieve the qualification, you will complete assessments in each skill area. These qualifications provide a strong foundation for progression to higher-level ESOL courses or Functional Skills English.
What you’ll cover:
- Speaking and listening skills for everyday communication
- Reading skills using practical and workplace-related texts
- Writing for everyday and work-related purposes
- Developing vocabulary and grammar for real-life situations
- Building confidence in using English independently
Regular attendance for the full duration of the course is essential. You will be expected to complete homework and practise English outside of class to support your progress.

Entry Requirements
Before starting the course, you will complete an initial assessment to ensure you are placed on the most appropriate level for your current English ability.

On completion of this course, you may wish to progress to:

- Functional Skills English
- Further education, training or improved employment opportunities
