Discover the timeless craft of dry-stone walling.
Dry stone walls provide a natural means of creating a long lasting perimeter without the need for mortar or cement. Initial cost may appear more than fencing, but if well maintained they have the potential to last for 100 years as well as creating shelter and a habitat for a variety of plants and animals. Dry stone walls are highly popular in northern and western Britain, as well as high altitude areas, where the climate affects the ability to grow hedges.
You will learn:
- Safe working practices
- Identifying and organising different types of stone
- Stripping back a section of wall
- Working to a line
- Placing through stones
- Building back wall
- Placing cope stones
- Reflecting and evaluating your own work and work of other wallers
This course is designed for complete beginners or those with a small amount of experience who want to learn how to build and maintain dry stone walls. On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance from Tyro Training.
