Develop the knowledge and understanding needed to provide high-quality, person-centred care for individuals living with dementia.

This qualification is designed to help you develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for individuals with dementia. You will explore how dementia can affect individuals and learn how person-centred care, positive communication and meaningful activities can improve quality of life.

You will also gain an understanding of key issues such as medication, equality, inclusion and behaviour in the context of dementia. Studying online gives you the flexibility to learn at a time and pace that suits your work or home commitments, while still receiving structured support from experienced tutors.

What you’ll cover:

  • Dementia awareness
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Understanding the factors that can influence communication and interaction
  • Understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
  • Understanding the administration of medication using a person-centred approach
  • Understanding behaviour in the context of dementia
  • Understanding the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia

For each unit, you will complete a set of knowledge-based questions as part of the formal assessment. Your tutor will provide feedback after each unit. All assessments must be completed and passed to successfully achieve the qualification.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 or equivalent English language qualification required.
