Build essential digital security knowledge and take your first step into the world of cyber security.
This introductory qualification is designed to give you a clear understanding of cybercrime and the importance of staying safe in an increasingly digital world. Suitable for beginners, the course explores common cyber threats and the practical methods used to protect individuals and organisations online.
You will learn how cybercrime affects everyday life, businesses and society, and gain an awareness of the techniques used by cybercriminals. The course also introduces key protective measures and responsible online behaviour, helping you build confidence when using digital technologies.
Learning is portfolio-based and includes practical activities and discussions to support understanding.
What you’ll cover:
- What cybercrime is and how it affects individuals and organisations
- Common cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware and cyber extortion
- Criminal motives and tactics used by cybercriminals
- Routine protective methods including strong passwords, antivirus software and firewalls
- Introduction to vulnerability testing and ethical hacking
- User access control and safe information sharing
- Legal and ethical responsibilities, including GDPR and responsible online behaviour
Commitment to attending sessions for the full duration of the course is required.
You will be expected to complete homework and independent study tasks outside of class to support your learning and progression.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. This course is suitable for beginners with an interest in digital safety, IT or cyber security.

- Level 2 Certificate in Digital and IT Skills
