This introductory course provides a gentle and supportive introduction to counselling skills and concepts. It is ideal for those considering further study or who want to explore the foundations of counselling in a structured environment. 

Over the course, you will explore the core elements of counselling, including listening skills, basic theory, equality and diversity, and self-awareness. The course encourages reflection and personal development, allowing you to better understand both yourself and others. 

Through a combination of discussion, activities and guided learning, you will gain an insight into what is involved in counselling training and the skills required. This course also provides useful preparation for progression to Level 2 or Level 3 Counselling Skills courses. 

Please note, this course does not qualify you to practise counselling or provide therapeutic support.

  • Introduction to counselling and its key concepts 
  • Developing effective listening skills 
  • Exploring basic counselling theories 
  • Understanding equality and diversity in counselling 
  • Reflecting on personal development and self-awareness 
  • Insight into counselling skills training at Level 2 and Level 3 
  • Understanding pathways into counselling training 

 This course includes reflective activities and group discussion in a supportive learning environment. 

You will be encouraged to participate in activities that explore personal development and communication skills. 

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. This course is suitable for beginners and those considering further study in counselling.

Further Study

On completion of this course, you may wish to progress to:

  • Counselling Skills Level 2
  • Counselling Skills Level 3

This course provides a foundation for further training in counselling and related fields.
