Public Services Students Participate in UK Parliament Week
Level 3 Public Services Students took part in UK Parliament Week, by welcoming Senior Education and Engagement Outreach Officer Mikey Collinson to their lesson to hear about the UK Government system.

The group had their knowledge of the UK Parliamentary system firmly tested by a series of quizzes and teasers before moving on to discussing and ranking a range of topics important to them including economy, health, education, environment, transport, crime, diversity and equality, and housing in small groups.
The groups raised some really interesting and insightful points during the meaningful discussions.
There followed more information on the differences between the Houses in Parliament and how bills are passed.

Mikey Collinson said, “These sessions show young people that Parliament is relevant to their lives as decisions about education, work, and public services are made there. Understanding how laws are made and how they can use their voice is a fundamental part of our democratic rights and British values, particularly for public service students who will go on to work within these laws in their future careers.”
Dr James Simpkin, Lecturer in Public Services added, “It was great to have Senior Parliamentary Education and Engagement Outreach Officer Mikey Collinson deliver a session on the Parliamentary law-making process to our L3 Public Services students today. His lesson reinforced prior learning on this subject and set us up nicely for the content we will cover in future lessons. This helped students with their revision for the Government exam coming in the new year. Mikey’s session timed nicely with Parliament Week, demonstrating to our students the importance of taking part in our democracy through voting, activism and public service.”
