“Gone are the days when you need to travel to London to work in the Media”, and “Be visible, be bold, know your stuff and put yourself in places where you can make connections with others”
These are just two of the messages our Creative Media students took from hearing about the career paths and industry experiences of three Media professionals who have visited Aireville Campus in recent weeks. The guests who work in the fields of journalism, animation, and scrip-editing came to share their wisdom with our students.
Level 3 students Rebecca Radda and Felicity Beckett took much from these experiences. Rebecca said, “The overall message is to be persistent and contact lots of people about potential opportunities and share your work.”
Felicity added, “A key message for me was “know why you are there and where you want to get to”.”
Charles Humphreys, actor, animator, and writer from The Unit at Keighley and Kevin Howells, a BBC journalist with over 40 years’ experience outlined how important it is to take advantage of opportunities when they arise, such as free workshops on offer at The Unit, with the chance to network, access help and support, and make use of industry-standard equipment.

This week saw Craven College Alumnus Liam Stratton return to campus. Liam was in our very first Media and Communication cohort and now has extensive writing experience for television in the UK and abroad. Most recently, Liam has worked on the long-running ITV drama Vera, which has just filmed its last two episodes. As a result, students were treated to the inside scoop on on-set antics and the commissioning process for new dramas on television.

We’re really grateful to all our guests for taking the time to share their experiences and advice with our students.
