Foundation Learning Visit Pure Gym Skipton
Level One and Level Two Foundation Learning students had the fantastic opportunity to visit Pure Gym in Skipton this week, as part of the Health and Wellbeing module of their qualification.

Students were given a tour of the facilities with Gym Manager Dan Woodhouse learning about how each machine works, the benefits of using each machine and then getting to give it a go themselves!
Starting with treadmills, cross trainers, and Stairmasters to get nicely warmed up students then moved into the studio space to try lifting weight. Dan discussed workouts with the students, explaining the benefits of heart rate increases then leading movements with the bars. Students were then invited to try some push ups and squats – learning which exercises work which muscle groups.
The students really enjoyed working with slam balls, enjoying the exercise as stress release!

Donna Lamiot, Deputy Head of Department for Progression to Learning and Work, Design, Style, and Foundation said, “I joined Progression to Learning and Work and Foundation Learning in November and was speaking with Rowan Jones, Programme Lead about the curriculum and the elements of the course for Foundation Learning. She mentioned the Health and Wellbeing unit and what we could do to cover this element that students would enjoy.
“I have been going to Pure Gym since it opened in Skipton and suggested I would speak to Manager Dan Woodhouse about the learners having a taster session in the gym, Dan was very keen on the idea and has been very helpful. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the session today, and Dan was very friendly and accommodating with our learners. We have plans for Dan and his staff to deliver a class with our learners on a monthly basis, which will help boost their health and wellbeing alongside their curriculum and community engagement.”

Our students really enjoyed the visit; here are just some of their comments: –
Elle – “I liked the visit; I really enjoyed the slam balls.”
Lilyanna – “I already go to the gym with my mum on Tuesday and Thursday. I like the Stairmaster best.”
David – “I liked the stairs best – I worked so hard my legs felt like jelly.”
Scott – “I want to get more leg strong, so I liked the machine than exercises my legs.”
The session ended with a discussion around staying safe in the gym. We are really grateful to Dan and the team at Pure Gym Skipton for giving our students such a wonderful experience!
