Try the pottery wheel for a day and create your own ceramic piece in this hands-on throwing workshop.

This full-day workshop offers an engaging and practical introduction to throwing on the pottery wheel. Suitable for beginners and those looking to try something new, the session provides a supportive environment to explore the fundamentals of working with clay.

Guided by experienced tutors, you will learn the key techniques involved in wheel throwing, from preparing the clay to shaping your forms. The workshop is designed to give you a real feel for the process while building confidence and creativity.

By the end of the session, you will select your best piece to be professionally fired and ready for collection, leaving you with a finished ceramic item and a new set of skills.

What you’ll cover

  • Introduction to the pottery wheel and safe working practices
  • Setting up and using the wheel
  • Preparing and selecting clay
  • Basic throwing techniques such as centring and shaping
  • Creating simple forms
  • Selecting and preparing work for firing

Entry Requirements

No prior experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn a new skill.

Information

All materials required are included in the course fee.

For your safety and comfort, please bring:

  • Closed-toe footwear
  • Long hair tied back
  • No valuable jewellery
  • Optional: your own apron (aprons are also available to borrow)
  • A drink and snack (there will be a break)
