Sweet and Salty – a smorgasbord of tasty treats and eats that will impress your family and friends. Build the ultimate Sweet and Salty spread, discover the secret of the ‘crunch factor’, and learn how to perfectly balance rich fats with sharp salt.

This short but satisfying course unpacks one of food’s most compelling flavour combinations. You’ll explore why sweet and salty flavours enhance each other, and how professional bakers and snack makers use this contrast to create irresistible results.

Perfect for home cooks who want quick wins and showstopper treats – no prior experience needed, just enthusiasm for preparing and cooking food to wow your family and friends!

  • Week 1 – We’ll kickstart the course by exploring the science of sweet and salty flavour contrast – why it works, and how to use it. We’ll make salted caramel and a simple chocolate bark with crunchy toppings to set the tone.
  • Week 2 – This week you’ll build on what you learnt in Week 1 and look at the ‘crunch factor’ – how texture plays a role in the sweet and salty experience.
  • Week 3 – You’ll be creating a full sharing platter – a mix of sweet bites and savoury snacks designed to complement each other. Think honeyed cheese boards, sweet pastry parcels, and salted popcorn clusters.
  • Week 4 – The final week of your course! We’ll bring together everything learned and create your show-stopping final spread – a curated Sweet and Salty platter designed to impress. The perfect end to a delicious four weeks.
