Develop the knowledge and confidence to raise awareness, encourage open conversations and help support suicide and self-harm prevention.
This qualification is designed to support you in developing knowledge and understanding of self-harm and suicide awareness and prevention. It is suitable for a wide range of work roles where understanding these issues is important, including health, social care, education and community support settings.
You will learn how to recognise signs of self-harm and suicidal thoughts, understand prevention strategies and explore how to support individuals and those affected by suicide. The course encourages informed, sensitive and appropriate conversations that may help prevent harm.
Studying online allows you to learn flexibly at a time and pace that suits your work or home commitments, while receiving structured tutor support.
What you’ll cover:
- Introduction to suicide and self-harm awareness
- Recognising signs of suicide and self-harm in individuals
- Principles of suicide and self-harm prevention
- Supporting individuals when dealing with grief after suicide
For each unit, you will complete a set of knowledge-based questions as part of the formal assessment. Your tutor will provide feedback after each unit. All assessments must be completed and passed to successfully achieve the qualification.

Level 1 or equivalent English language qualification required.
