Develop the knowledge and understanding needed to prevent and control infection and support safe practice in health care settings.

This qualification is designed to help you develop knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and control within health care settings. It is suitable if you are working, or preparing to work, in health or social care environments where maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety is essential.

You will explore how infections are caused and spread, learn about best practices for cleaning and decontamination, and understand the importance of personal hygiene and health in reducing risk. Studying online allows you to learn at a time and pace that suits your work or home commitments, while still receiving structured support from experienced tutors.

What you’ll cover:

  • Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings
  • Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting
  • Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings
  • Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in preventing and controlling infection

For each unit, you will complete a set of knowledge-based questions as part of the formal assessment. Your tutor will provide feedback after each unit. All assessments must be completed and passed to successfully achieve the qualification.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 or equivalent English language and Maths qualification required.
