Strong maths skills are essential for everyday life and work. Gain confidence with numbers and achieve a recognised qualification that supports employment and further study.

This course is designed to help you develop practical maths skills that you can use at home, at work and in further education. Whatever your previous experience of maths, you will receive supportive teaching to build confidence and improve your understanding.

You will work towards a nationally recognised Functional Skills Maths qualification at either Level 1 or Level 2. Learning focuses on applying maths skills to real-life situations such as budgeting, measuring and problem solving.

To achieve the qualification, you will complete two exams at each level: a calculator exam and a non-calculator exam. Mock assessments will be completed before you are entered for the final exams, which take place at different points during the year. You may re-sit exams up to three times in an academic year if required.

What you’ll cover:

  • Number skills and calculations
  • Using fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Measurement and geometry
  • Interpreting data and graphs
  • Applying maths to real-life situations
  • Preparing for Functional Skills Maths assessments

You will be expected to complete homework outside of the classroom to support your learning, and commitment to attending sessions for the full duration of the course is required.
