Interested in working with the land, environment and conservation? Build practical skills and confidence for a future in land-based work.

This course provides a practical introduction to the land-based sector and is ideal if you are new to working with the natural environment. You will develop essential skills, safe working practices and an understanding of everyday tasks carried out in land-based roles.

You will gain hands-on experience while learning about working outdoors, supporting wildlife and managing natural spaces. The course is designed to help you build confidence, improve employability skills and decide whether a career in land-based work is right for you.

To achieve the qualification, you will complete two units. One unit focuses on safe and effective working practices in the land-based industries, and the second unit will relate to plants, trees, wildlife or conservation, depending on the delivery location.

What you’ll cover:

  • Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
  • Understanding everyday tasks carried out in outdoor environments
  • Developing practical skills linked to plants, trees, wildlife or conservation
  • Working safely and responsibly in the natural environment
  • Building confidence for land-based employment or further study

This course requires commitment for the full duration of the programme.
You will be expected to complete homework and independent study tasks outside of classroom sessions to support your learning and progression.
Assessment is portfolio-based and may include practical tasks, design activities and written assignments.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you should have an interest in the natural environment and outdoor work.

You will need to bring:

  • Sturdy footwear
  • Suitable clothing for working outdoors in all weather conditions

Further Study

On completion of this course, you may progress to:

  • Level 1 Certificate or Diploma in Land-Based Studies
  • Level 2 Countryside Studies (Land and Wildlife)
  • Volunteering in conservation or environmental projects
  • Employment with woodland, countryside or conservation organisations
  • Apprenticeships within the agricultural or wider land-based sector

This course provides a strong foundation for further training or employment in land-based and environmental roles.
