Discover the art of fabric dyeing in this creative five-week course. Explore colour, pattern and surface design while learning a variety of traditional and contemporary dyeing techniques.

This inspiring five-week course offers an introduction to fabric dyeing for adults interested in textiles, fashion and creative craft. Working in a supportive studio environment, you will explore a range of techniques using both natural and synthetic dyes.

Through hands-on experimentation, you will develop confidence in creating pattern, texture and colour effects on fabric. By the end of the course, you will have produced a collection of sample pieces and finished designs, along with the knowledge and skills to continue your own textile projects.

What you’ll learn:

  • Introduction to fabric dyeing and safe working practices
  • Understanding colour mixing and application
  • Tie-dye and resist techniques
  • Salt and tube dyeing methods
  • Rust dyeing and natural processes
  • Sun printing using light-sensitive techniques
  • Introduction to batik using wax resist
  • Developing pattern, texture and creative outcomes

Entry Requirements

No prior experience is necessary – but it may be beneficial if you have some prior creative experience

All materials required are included in the course fee.

For your safety and comfort, please bring:

  • Closed-toe footwear
  • Long hair tied back
  • No valuable jewellery
  • A drink and snack (there will be a short break)
