Explore clay and bring your ideas to life as you learn the basics of ceramic sculpture in a supportive studio environment. 

This hands-on course introduces you to the core techniques of ceramic sculpture using clay. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience, it provides a practical and creative foundation in hand-building methods.

Over the weeks, you will learn how to design and create both sculptural and functional pieces while developing confidence in working with clay. The course focuses on accessible techniques that can be continued at home without the need for specialist equipment.

By the end of the course, you will have created a selection of ceramic work and gained the skills and knowledge to continue your practice independently.

What you’ll cover:

  • Introduction to clay and safe working practices
  • Hand-building techniques in ceramics
  • Basic modelling and forming methods
  • Exploring surface design and texture
  • Constructing and assembling components
  • Understanding different types of clay
  • Preparing work for firing

Entry Requirements

No prior experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn a new skill.

Information

All materials required to make your sculpture are included in the course fee.

For your safety and comfort, please bring:

  • Closed-toe footwear
  • Long hair tied back
  • No valuable jewellery
  • Optional: your own apron (aprons are also available to borrow)
  • A drink and snack (there will be a short break)
