Our very special bicentennial anniversary year got off to a great start with the launch of our 200-year celebrations, 200 Voices!

Throughout College, departments are coming together to create special events, and learning opportunities within their curriculum themed around the 200-year celebration.

You might have noticed our social media dressing to impress, with a range of special headers to commemorate this momentous year, whilst we have been teasing our audiences with a range of “#ThrowbackThursday” photos, designed to test their knowledge of College past and present.

Meanwhile, our Student Union and Gardening Club have been busy planting bulbs, that hopefully in a few months will display something really special in the Campus grounds. A second piece of art is being created and is in its early stages. Art students have already made the basic structure, whilst Carpentry and Joinery students will be creating a plinth to display the finished work.

Victoria Alderson, Enrichment Officer, curated a project as part of the Craven Lit installation. This was a true cross-College project, which involved a number of areas creating a piece of artwork that was displayed in the windows of our former High Street building. Following the end of the installation, this unique piece of artwork will be removed and returned to College where it will remain on display, showcasing the talents of our students.

Business, Public Services and Sport have arranged a “Rower Challenge”; running all month this gave staff and students the chance to try and row 200m in as quick a time as possible. Running over two months and culminating on 28 February, the current leader posted an astonishing time of 33.3 seconds…can anyone beat the top time and get to the top of the leaderboard?!

In a month that has seen our Aireville Campus and The Aviation Academy host a series of open events to recruit the students of the future, seen students takeover The Devonshire Fell, participate in first aid training, visit local businesses, and host alumni from the Royal Navy it is a really special thought that we have been enriching lives through learning throughout Skipton and the surrounding areas for 200 years!

We would love to hear from anyone connected to the College throughout the years, whether as a student, staff or simply anyone with a story to tell. Anyone who would like to share their memories and become a part of the College’s incredible journey should email: rbarratt@craven-college.ac.uk.

If you’d like to keep up to date with all the 200-year celebrations and events, please visit our 200 years’ page and sign up to our mailing list.

We currently have no courses running this academic year.
