Craven College Receives Positive Ofsted Monitoring Visit

Published 17 March

Craven College has been praised by education watchdog Ofsted for the progress made since their inspection in February 2024.

Inspectors carried out a monitoring visit of the College over two days in February, the focus of which was to evaluate the progress that leaders and managers have made in resolving the main areas for improvement identified at the previous inspection. On the back of the visit a report has now been published which has outlined the improvements that have been made.

The report confirmed that the College had made significant or reasonable progress across the five areas highlighted for improvement. The report found that “senior leaders have recently made careful changes to improve the workloads of staff” whilst noting “lecturers talk enthusiastically about the improvements leaders have made to reduce their workloads”. It went on to comment that leaders have “strengthened their quality assurance arrangements to help them to monitor and track the quality of education that learners receive more effectively” and “as a result, more young people benefit from better teaching and achieve their qualifications” whilst “leaders have further developed the training that staff receive to improve their teaching skills”.

Particular mention was made that “since the previous inspection governors have recruited a permanent leadership team” with leaders and governors deemed “relentless in their drive to create a collaborative culture where staff participate in decision making and feel listened to” with emphasis on how staff value “the extensive communication from leaders and embrace the vision of ‘One College, One Team’”.

Anita Lall, Principal and CEO of Craven College said, “It was wonderful to see everyone pull together as ‘One College, One Team’ during this monitoring visit and I am delighted that Ofsted have recognised the positive impact of the actions that the College has taken since its last inspection.  The progress made is testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment shown by staff in supporting students to excel. I am incredibly proud of the staff at Craven College and know that we will continue to grow and flourish and achieve great things together.”

Wesley McGlinchey, Assistant Principal of Curriculum & Student Experience added, “The Ofsted monitoring report has quite rightly acknowledged the improvements staff have made to ensure we continue to provide high quality education to our students. I would like to thank all staff for their ongoing contribution.”

Dr Alison Birkinshaw, Chair of the Board of Governors commented “The Governors at Craven College are absolutely delighted with the positive findings highlighted in the report from the recent Ofsted monitoring visit. As Chair of Governors, I have every confidence that the hard work will continue so that the College becomes an exceptional place to learn and work.

Dean Langton, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors added, “This inspection report shows the significant progress being made by the College to improve outcomes for students and reflects the hard work and determination of the staff to provide the best learning opportunities possible”.

Craven College continues on its journey as ‘One College, One Team’ and looks forward to welcoming Ofsted on their full inspection visit.
