Anniversary Celebrations Continuing Throughout College

Published 06 May

Although the weather might not be quite as consistently spring-like as we might hope, Spring is a constant at Craven College in the shape of our finished 200-year flower sculpture.

This special piece, created by so many staff and students, really reflects the entire College as so many people came together to make tissue flowers to adorn the base. The sculpture is currently residing in Pen-y-ghent as part of its campus-wide tour, ensuring that all our students and staff get the opportunity to view the artwork as possible!

Meanwhile, art can take many forms, and we just love this tribute to 200 years of Craven College chalked on the car park!

Our Horticulture students together with students from Evolve in Ripon, and students from The Good Shepherd Centre in Keighley collaborated to create two different designs to enter at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show 2025. The first using plants and design principles typical of the 19th and early 20th centuries whilst the second had a more contemporary feel.

Our students were awarded four stars for the first hundred years and three stars for the second hundred years. A huge thank you to Michael Myers for making this wonderful tribute to our 200 years possible. The two displays received many favourable comments from visitors and even made an appearance on BBC Breakfast News!

To celebrate 200 years of Craven College, Exams Officer Jenny Cox is swimming 200 length of Craven Leisure Centre pool over two days starting 23 June to raise funds for The Student Health and Wellbeing Fund.

The funds raised will go towards developing a College Sensory Garden and enhancing the space with a solar-powered water feature, together with materials and storage for garden tools.
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored Jenny so far and raised an amazing £560 to date!

Peace Meal

Just before the Easter holidays staff, students and invited guests joined together for a Peace Meal. Our amazing Catering students and tutors made some wonderful food such as a variety of breads, curries, and samosas – a huge thank you to Will Jacques and Richard Newall for their help!

This was such a wonderful and important event where different religious leaders, faith groups and members of our community came together to share wonderful food and bridge gaps in our community, with community being at the forefront of everything we do – we have been proudly serving our communities by delivering high quality education and training for 200 years!

On Wednesday 30 April, over 200 staff and students came together to create a very special photograph. forming the number 200, this was a great example of collaboration and gives a lasting reminder of this special anniversary year.

Our 200 Acts of Kindness project remains ongoing with a counter in our Whernside Reception showing just how many acts of kindness have been made! With suggestions such as “compliment the first three people you talk to today,” “smile at people passing by” and “open the door for someone,” we have loved seeing how these small acts of kindness have made the campus a better place!

Alongside our special events, College has been as busy as ever! We delighted in our National Achievement Rates performance, Agricultural Engineering students enjoyed a hands on experience, Sport and Uniformed Public Services students were put through their paces by the army, Access to FE and Land-based students enjoyed a day on the farm, whilst members of our Sustainability Group attended Skipton Eco Day.

We currently have no courses running this academic year.
