Hair Professional Apprenticeship

Hairdressing Professionals are creative, passionate, and driven professionals.

A Hairdressing Professional works in the hairdressing industry, which is one of the largest, most trusted and fashion forward professions. Entry Requirements

  • While there are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship, you may be required to do an Initial Assessment to ascertain your suitability for the course
  • If you do not hold a qualification in maths & English at Level 1, you will be required to pass Functional Skills in these subjects and work towards Level 2 prior to the completion of the apprenticeship
  • No other specific qualifications are required as full training will be given
  • Employment in the industry

What you will study

  • The hair and skin science behind hairdressing services
  • How to complete consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp for hairdressing services
  • The science behind shampooing, treating, and conditioning the hair and scalp
  • The principles of colour selection and the use of the International Colour Chart (ICC)
  • The cutting methodology, techniques, tools and equipment required to create different effects
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Restyle hair to create a personalised short or medium (above the shoulder) length hair cut
  • Complete a range of hair colouring and lightening services
  • Dry and finish hair using a range of techniques
  • Apply safe, hygienic, and effective methods of working
  • Carry out wider salon duties to support the salon business (e.g. services, bookings, payments, retail, upselling and sales)
  • Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp and complete relevant industry tests
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing working environments and demands
  • Communicates and behaves appropriately
  • Demonstrates professionalism and a passion for the industry with a commitment to quality
  • Shows a willingness to learn

  • Monthly workplace visits from a Learning Development Advisor
  • College attendance 1 day per week during term time
  • 6 hrs per week ‘off the job training’ tracked
  • Portfolio building – work based evidence
