Barbering Professional Apprenticeship
Barbering Professionals provide high-quality grooming services while delivering excellent customer care. Working in barbershops of all sizes, from independent businesses to large salon chains, they use a range of barbering techniques to create and maintain fashionable and traditional hair and beard styles tailored to individual client needs.
Throughout the programme, learners develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to shampoo, condition, cut, style and finish hair, as well as shape beards and moustaches and perform shaving services. They learn to work confidently with a wide range of hair types, textures and characteristics, while maintaining high standards of precision, hygiene and professionalism.
Barbers build strong relationships with clients through effective consultation and communication, helping customers achieve their desired look while providing advice on hair care, grooming and suitable products. They also develop retail and promotional skills to support business growth and enhance the customer experience.
Working independently and as part of a team, apprentices learn the importance of professionalism, customer service, safe working practices and effective communication. They gain the confidence to promote products and services while delivering industry-standard barbering services in a busy commercial environment.
On completion, learners will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to work confidently as a professional barber, providing a wide range of hair and grooming services while delivering excellent client care.

- The techniques and methodology behind preparing for and carrying out different shaving services
- The techniques and methodology behind drying, styling and finishing hair
- Carry out front-of-house duties to support the barbershop business
- Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp
- Prepare the hair for barbering services
- Cut hair using a range of barbering cutting techniques
- Restyle hair by changing the length, bulk or shape
- Style and finish hair
- Design, create and maintain a variety of facial hair shapes and looks
- Provide shaving and facial massage services safely
- Demonstrates good verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates professionalism and a passion for the industry
