Sessions Give Students Vital Skills & Strategies

Published 12 May

Progression to Learning and Work students recently took part in a series of “Coping with Challenges” sessions delivered by the British Red Cross. The sessions focused on helping students build confidence, resilience, and practical strategies for dealing with everyday challenges both in education and in daily life.

Throughout the workshops, students explored topics such as managing stress, understanding emotions, problem-solving, communication skills, and how to support both themselves and others during difficult situations. Activities included group discussions, teamwork exercises, and real-life scenarios that encouraged students to share ideas and reflect on positive coping techniques.

The sessions created a safe and supportive environment where learners were able to develop important life skills while gaining a better understanding of mental wellbeing and emotional resilience. Students actively participated in conversations about overcoming obstacles and learning how to stay positive when facing pressure or uncertainty.

Marie Isherwood, Lecturer in Progression to Learning & Work said, “Sessions like these are so important because they give young people the confidence and tools to deal with real-life challenges. They remind students that they are not alone and that building resilience and communication skills can make a huge difference both in education and beyond.”
