Performing Arts Student Trip of a Lifetime!

Published 23 September

Amelie Brown, a Year 1 Level 3 Performing Arts student has had the most amazing experience recently!

Amelie is a lifelong Newcastle United fan was born with only the left side of her heart, and last week had the chance to visit St James’ Park last Tuesday to watch a training session through the Rays of Sunshine charity.

Rays of Sunshine is an organisation that works with children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses aiming to create positive distractions, reduce isolation, improve self-esteem, and create special memories by granting wishes and providing ongoing support within hospitals and the community.

Amelie got the chance to travel to St James’ Park and watch the team train and was given a signed shirt. She also had plenty of photo opportunities with her favourite players Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton. She then got to attend the media opportunities and got a real behind the scenes feel for what happens at a Premier League football club as the team gets prepared for a big game – the perfect experience for a Performing Arts student.

Amelie said, “It was an amazing experience, and I’m still smiling. I’m still so shocked I got the opportunity.

The day didn’t end there though, with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe giving Amelie and her family tickets to the Newcastle United vs Barcelona Champions League match on Thursday 18 September.

Although the result didn’t quite go the way Amelie hoped, with Newcastle losing 1-2 she commented “The Champions League match was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. I had a great view from where I was sitting, and I got to meet an ex-footballer who played for the team and saw loads of famous people! I also had dinner there and got given some gifts from the people I met at the Newcastle training ground!”

What a fabulous experience, a huge thank you to Rays of Sunshine and everyone at Newcastle United for making it possible for Amelie!
