New Course to Provide Vital Skills

Published 23 July

We are delighted to be adding to our repertoire of part-time qualifications with the VetSkill Level 2 Diploma in Patient Care Assistance, due to start in Autumn 2025.

This 18-month programme offers a blended learning experience combining practical, in-person sessions delivered at our Aireville Campus together with engaging and interactive online learning modules.

Covering essential topics including Animal Health and Welfare, Legislation and Safe Working Practices, Patient Care, Lab Procedures, Veterinary Care Support, and much more, this course offers an excellent foundation for those interested in animal care within the veterinary sector. On completion, students will be ready to pursue employment as a Veterinary Care Assistant or progress to further training in the field.

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this course, applicants must be employed or volunteering in a veterinary practice in order to meet the practical elements of the qualification. This is an excellent opportunity for those enthusiastic about animal care to gain recognised qualifications while working in a veterinary practice.

Danielle Fox, Head of Department for Land-based said, “Employers highly value the Level 2 Veterinary Care Associate qualification because it equips students with real, hands-on skills, ensures they’re work-ready from day one, and provides a strong foundation for progression into industry — all while directly addressing labour market demands and vital skills shortages across the industry.  We are really excited about supporting our local veterinary practices in providing a skilled workforce, passionate about animal health and welfare.
